This piece explores ancestry as a kinetic experience that lives within our embodied memories. The continual migration between two seemingly separated spaces signals the archetype of the medial person, standing unfixed between two identities, not quite from here, nor from there, yet able to convey knowledge from one world to the other. The dancers and the dance consecrate a liminal space for those that feel this "in between". These songs are maps for navigating in between, their whisper an elixir for thriving between the seen and the unseen. At the end of her life here, my abuelita at times believed she was elsewhere, but she remembered many songs she sang as a young girl. Music loosens and frees memory. Moving the archive of song through the body can be a way of crossing over to a medial space. Guided by ancestors, their melodies are the maps that help us feel the imprint of what we cannot see.
